From Brazil to Montreal: Best Practices in Urban Agriculture

At 12:15 on June 20, 2018 , the Centre for Sustainable Development, Climate Reality Project Canada and the City of Montréal host From Brazil to Montreal: Best Practices in Urban Agriculture organized as part of our Lunch & Learn conferences during the ICLEI World Congress 2018.

Don't miss this opportunity to discover the best practices in urban agriculture in Brazil and Montreal with Evelyn R. Nimmo, PhD (Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa, Brazil) and Gaëlle Janvier (Alternatives, Montréal). They will discuss about the present barriers and opportunities to multiplying urban food production and increasing local food security in Canadian and Brazilian contexts.

Urban agriculture can shorten supply chains and reduce food wasted in transit, playing an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Done right, it also has the potential to build community and strengthen social ties between cultures and generations.

Brief presentations will be followed by a question and answer period with the audience. Seed balls and instructions to plant them (it's easier than you think!) will be distributed in partnership with Seed the Globe.

Important: the conference will be held in English and French.

Tour of the UQAM's community garden
After the conference (1:15pm), participants are invited to join a walking tour of UQAM's community garden, the CRAPAUD. Along the way, guides will demonstrate how plants - and even weeds - that grow in the cities cracks and crevasses can be beneficial to your garden.
